Kitchen Cabinet Selection

Kitchen cabinet designs can have a dramatic impact on our kitchen value, and it can be an expensive venture to upgrade.  It is one of the top homes upgrade.  In order to purchase the correct cabinets for your family, you will need to shop around, and investigate the options that are appropriate for your family.

Kitchen cabinet selection can be a difficult process, it is important to take your time and do due diligence.  If you are in the market for new cabinet, major home improvement retailers, kitchen store and kitchen magazines can be a great source of ideas.  Kitchen cabinets are available in solid wood, laminate or veneer material, each has its own positive and negative impact for the homeowner.  Wood is considered at the high end of the cabinetry spectrum, with veneer and laminate at the lower end. The choices are up to the user's preference and budget.

If your kitchen cabinet choice is veneer, the benefit of using this product is that it offers an even consistent appearance which makes it easy to stain.  Veneer cabinetry is effective in maintaining humidity and temperature adjustment. It holds up really well without causing any warping or swelling.  The disadvantage of veneer is its thin composition. It is subject to chipping and peeling.  Fading or damage of veneer are not repairable and requires replacement in the event of damage, this decreases the value of this product. Veneer is made with thin plywood as well as a composite base, this makes it easy to manufacture and contribute to the low cost.

Wood kitchen cabinets are made from pieces of lumber that are combined together to form a permanent surface.  Its planks can be sanded and refinished. The initial cost is usually high, but averages out to be a better value over the lifetime of cabinet compare to other cabinets.  Wood is a natural product, and it does show blemishes and irregular patterns.  Wood can be refreshed with a new stain, or paint to provide a dramatic update.

Laminate is another option for kitchen cabinet; it is prepared from a compound base with paper on top to form a layer.  The paper has the appearance of wood grain, and is sealed with a transparent coating which provides protection. It has uniform and consistent appearance and will last for years with minimal maintenance. It tends to have unnatural look due to its composition of product, and is relatively inexpensive.
